How to grow a Telegram channel from zero
Telegram has no recommendation feed, which changes everything about growth. Why the first few hundred members are the hardest, and where buying fits.

Why Telegram growth works differently
On TikTok or YouTube, a good piece of content can find an audience by itself. The platform tests it and widens the audience if it performs. On Telegram, that mechanism does not exist. Every member arrives because a human sent a link, mentioned the channel, or searched for its exact name.
Telegram's in-app search does exist, and it ranks channels partly by member count. A channel with 50 members is functionally invisible in search; one with several thousand appears. This is the one place where the number directly affects discovery rather than just perception.
The consequence is a cold-start problem sharper than on any other platform. You need members to be findable, and you need to be findable to get members. Most channels never escape it, which is why so many sit at double digits forever.
The three things that actually work
Cross-posting from somewhere you already have an audience. The overwhelming majority of successful Telegram channels are downstream of something else — a YouTube channel, a trading community, a newsletter, a Twitter following. Telegram is where an existing audience goes to be closer to you, not where a new audience finds you.
Being mentioned in other channels. Paid mentions and cross-promotions are the closest thing Telegram has to advertising, and they work because the traffic arrives pre-qualified. This is genuinely the highest-leverage thing available.
Search visibility, which brings us back to member count. A channel with a name people search for and a count high enough to rank will accumulate members passively. Below a threshold, it accumulates nothing.
Notice that none of these is 'post good content'. Content keeps members; it does not find them. That distinction is more absolute on Telegram than anywhere else.
Where buying members fits
It addresses exactly one problem: the cold start. A channel that looks abandoned does not convert the visitors it does get, and does not surface in search. Members raise both.
What it does not do is create activity. Bought members do not read posts, react, or reply. A channel with 5,000 members and 40 views per post looks worse than a channel with 300 members and 200 views per post, because the ratio is the thing experienced Telegram users read. On this platform more than most, the view-to-member ratio is a well-understood tell.
So if you buy members, it is worth understanding that you are buying the appearance of an established channel and the search visibility that comes with it — not an audience. Anyone selling you 'active members who will engage' is describing something that does not exist at any price.
The practical implication: keep purchases modest enough that post views remain plausible against member count. Real channels typically see somewhere between 20% and 60% of members viewing a given post. Buying 10,000 members onto a channel getting 80 views per post produces a number that actively damages credibility.
Buying without making it obvious
Buy in proportion. Work backwards from your post views rather than forwards from an ambition. If posts get 200 views, a member count in the high hundreds is coherent.
Consider buying post views alongside members so the ratio holds. On Telegram this matters more than on other platforms because both numbers are public and permanently visible on every post.
Buy gradually. Telegram shows member counts changing in real time to anyone watching, and a vertical jump is conspicuous in a way it is not elsewhere.
Expect some drop as Telegram removes deleted and inactive accounts, and check the refill window before buying rather than after. Ours is 30 days as standard and 90 on Premium.
Never share your account. Telegram accounts are tied to a phone number and hold your private messages. Members are added to a public channel from outside; a service asking for login access or a login code is attempting to take your account, and this is a common enough scam on Telegram specifically that it deserves stating bluntly.

A realistic sequence for a new channel
Give the channel a searchable name. Not a clever one — a descriptive one containing the words someone would type. This is the single highest-return decision and it is free.
Post consistently for a fortnight before spending anything. An empty channel converts nobody, bought members or not.
Establish a base so search and social proof stop working against you.
Then pursue mentions in adjacent channels, which is where real members come from.
Keep views and members in a plausible relationship as both grow.
The honest summary: buying solves the cold start and nothing else. The channels that grow are the ones that had somewhere else to grow from.
