Why follower count changes how people behave
TikTok's For You page decides what to show based on how people react in the first few seconds — and part of that reaction is what they see when they tap your profile. A creator with 40 followers and one with 4,000 get judged very differently, even when the video is identical.
This is social proof doing its work. Nobody wants to be the first person at an empty event. A visible audience signals that other people already found you worth following, which lowers the hesitation for the next visitor.
The effect is largest at the bottom of the range. Going from 40 to 1,000 changes how a profile reads completely; going from 40,000 to 41,000 changes almost nothing.
